A skeptical Brooklyn fruit vendor leans among overflowing crates of peaches, nectarines, plums and cherries beneath the title β€œBoy, you got some stones, pal.”

πŸ’ Boy, You Got Some Stones, Pal πŸ‘

Summer is ripening like a batch of sweet, sumptuous stone fruit. Sometimes it’s hard. Sometimes it’s gloriously juicy. Before long, 🀷🏻 it gets to be a bit much…

πŸͺ¨ Avoid The Pits πŸ•³οΈ

Life is just a bowl of cherries ~Lew Brown, lyric from the 1931 song ‘Life Is Just a Bowl of Cherries’

The only drawback to simply biting into a peach, nectarine or plum is finding that tooth-breaking center.

Likewise with popping a handful of glorious ripe cherries in your mouth and chewing.

It’s an exercise in preserving your smile and spitting out the seeds.

Lately, I’ve been taking the time to simply cut through to the pits and removing them before indulging.

Is it extra work? Yes

Do the cherries turn my fingers purple? Yes

Is it worth it? Absolutely

Growing season is about indulging in the sweetest flavors nature can provide.

That’s one of the few good things about summer in my estimation.

The next best thing is for it to be over, πŸ₯΅ which won’t be much longer thankfully.

Brown πŸ‘ Paper πŸ’ Bag

Ripening Bag for Summer Stone Fruit – The Produce Corner with Bob Corey

Given the seasonal abundance, I figured I’d invest.Β I got some peaches and a bag of luscious black cherries.

The cherries were good to go, but the peaches were hard enough to drive nails with.

What’s an impatient guy to do?

Well, this fellow in the video says put them in a paper bag for a few days.

Problem is, who’s got paper bags anymore?

Next best solution from Mr. McChatsky was to add a ripe banana and cover them with paper towels.

Worked like a charm.

I’ve been enjoying sweet, juicy peaches all week along with the glorious little nectar πŸ’ bombs.

Excellent pairing, by the by, especially with ice cream.

🍎 Excellent Thing πŸ‘

An apple is an excellent thing β€” until you have tried a peach ~George du Maurier

You know what is also excellent?

Editing your freakin’ book.

I’ve been rolling back through and found a day in March (in-story) where my otherwise flawlessly sequential prose suddenly jumped around.

🚫 Well, we can’t fuckin’ have that. Now, can we? πŸ—£οΈ

That’s why it’s important to review your work instead of assuming it’s perfect as-is.

I’ve listened to this thing several times and didn’t catch it until this review cycle.

I’m sure that seems a bit obsessive, but I’m trying to be consistent with the work and everything has been forward-only.

Scenes that happen in proximity are at least a minute later than the previous one, but always later.

This may change in 2007 (in-story) when I need some flashbacks for my older characters to put things in perspective, but in 2005 (in-story) it’s always forward by at least a minute per scene.

It seems like an odd detail to quibble over, but I’m trying to maintain consistency within the story, so…

That’s all for today. See you back on Wednesday for πŸ₯±πŸŒžπŸ˜«
