Harvest Gold

Now that it’s a more civilized time of year, we got to have a treat we haven’t enjoyed in a while. We enjoyed some slow-cooker chicken with multicolored carrots, green beans and stuffing. You can’t have that on a sweltering summer day. Thank God for πŸ‚ Autumn πŸ‚ and the freedom to enjoy a hot meal and a chilly evening.

The Seeds That You Plant

Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant. ~Robert Louis Stevenson

In fairness, there’s room for both. It’s time to enjoy the harvest of the growing seasons behind us. There are plenty of lovely things destined for the oven in the coming weeks and months.

The quote above isn’t so much about the harvest of scrumptious goodies as it is about living a full life. We keep planting seeds of joy by acting as kindly as we’re able. Doing what we can, when we can is a matter of planting for a future harvest.

Not always for our own benefit, either. The seeds of kindness you plant sometimes blossom outside of your awareness. Random acts of kindness with no expectation of reciprocation are the road to a golden harvest for everyone.

If we could just manage to be decent to each other and stop with the ridiculous finger-pointing and histrionics, the world might actually get back to some semblance of normal someday.

Rocky Jones, Space Ranger (1954)
FULL EPISODES, CORRECT ORDER!

I absolutely love this series. It’s definitely a time period piece but the stories are enjoyable. They created a reasonably consistent setting and they’ve got the super-dramatic (well, just kind of noisy, actually) launch sequence.

They didn’t get hung up on the fact that conventional rockets would take lifetimes just to get to planets in our own system. They had a job to do and a rocket to get them there, by golly.Β There’s no point in letting petty realism get in the way of good storytelling.

In fairness, realism doesn’t really detract from the storytelling, either. I also love The Expanse. They go to pretty extraordinary lengths to sell you on the scientific accuracy and veneer of realism.

Unlike Rocky Jones, The Expanse is definitely not safe for kids. It’s gritty, brutal and there’s plenty of political shenanigans. It’s interesting how space drama has evolved over the decades.

Dreams Into Space

Throw your dreams into space like a kite, and you do not know what it will bring back, a new life, a new friend, a new love, a new country. ~Anais Nin

I’m not quite ready for space just yet. I will be writing a series of space adventures, but first I have to get on with The Sentinels.

And there’s the rub. I’ve been rather distracted with work, life, illness, impending blindness and all the usual things that writers blame for not writing.

Well, these things happen. Life gets in the way and catching a cold that literally sucks the soul out of your body has a horrendous effect on creative output.

I have been doing research to get things in order to get back on track and to load up some ideas for when I’m ready to start writing the Tales Of Olde Auringia.

Let’s don’t even mention the fact that I’m on the clock to finish up October’s monthly post on Christmas All The Time before October begins so that I can get on with this year’s Holiday Season Serial Romance.

I’m busy, dammit!

And all of these stupid delays are making me cranky. I had stuff I wanted to be done yesterday and I simply didn’t have the cognitive oomph to pull it off because I was already behind on my computer work because I was functionally dead on Monday.

At least the seasonable weather has taken away one aggravating factor and that’s something to be grateful for. We have to find our happy place somewhere along the line and πŸ‚ Autumn πŸ‚ is mine.

That’s all the excitement I can pack in for now. I hope you’re having a lovely week.
