Onset of Beauty

The leaves are beginning to change colors and I’ve caught myself a sniffle.

Today is a day for catching up on things, particularly my relationship with Kelly.

One of the problems with being busy being busy is that I tend to get so wrapped up in what I’m doing that I don’t get to reconnect with my favorite person.

When I’m separated from her and I’m ridiculously busy, I get cranky and hard to be with.

Of course, this creates even more of a division. It’s a self-perpetuating cycle.

So, it’s nice to have a day like today when we can break free from this cycle and be together again.

She found some ridiculous sea monster movie to watch and, if I’m lucky, we’ll get to play some Scrabble later.

🍂 Classical 🍂 Autumn 🍂

Classical Autumn

The day started with a bit of a chill and I’ve been drowning in phlegm since at least 3 this morning.

I could try to blame that on the fact that she stole all the covers, but I usually don’t sleep with the covers on me.

I was worse yesterday so, hopefully, this is the tail end of my seasonal malady.

Boy, I could really live without the lava flow from my sinuses, though.

Well, The Sentinels – New Blood is full of them. I mean, what’s a superhero story without villains?

But what is a “real villain” anyway?

My work in progress has quite a collection of them. Gangsters have been the primary adversaries for The Sentinels up to this point, but The Conclave are the heart of evil in Empire City.

Even so, The Conclave owe their continued existence to the mysterious “visitors” to their monthly ritual of immortality. Who are these visitors and whom do they serve? That remains to be seen…

Of course, returning to our low-level mobsters, they’ve got their own axes to grind. While they generally come across as supernumerary mooks, they not only have their own agendas they also answer to mob bosses. Those mob bosses sometimes answer to other insidious villains.

As I asked above, what’s a superhero story without villains? Even more so, what’s a superhero story without supervillains?

Well, the first portion of The Sentinels series is based on the Golden Age of Comics. Back in the day, the principal villains of some of the most iconic comic characters were basic crooks, mad scientists, corrupt politicians and elite Axis operatives.

Of course, since The Sentinels began operations in 1992, we won’t be seeing any Nazis in need of a sock on the jaw. I’ll have to come up with some analogs for them but The Conclave have a majority of the other categories in their pockets. Ultimately, we won’t be seeing any proper supervillains until The Conclave’s collapse at the end of the first trilogy of the series.

Once the visitors break through in the wake of The Conclave’s demise, the Silver Age kicks off in uproarious comic book fashion…

That’s all for today. I hope you’re enjoying the weekend as much as I am
