Knowhere

For me, the only place better to go than nowhere is Knowhere. I hope you’ll come along with me for a moment…

Going

So, the entire Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is under an unconstitutional stay at home order. People are trying to decide whether it’s advisable to abide by it for the good of our fellow citizens or whether to tell our overstepping nanny-state governor to stick it in his ear.

Well, we’ve got a bit of a mix. Some people are just selfish and stupid and will do what the hell they want to do regardless of the repercussions to themselves or others. Some people are staying home for the good of those most likely to suffer, but they’re chomping at the bit to get back to work.

I, however, am content to stay here and work on my novel. The sooner the first one gets done, the sooner the series gets done. I’ve got a few more in mind, but first things first.

For those of us who are home, willingly or not, the world is literally at our fingertips. There are so many museums, world cultural sites, natural wonders and university courses who are providing their services for free during this difficult time. We have a world of opportunity inside our doors these days. There are so many excellent ways to spend our downtime, people. Please, forget the Tiger King and do something useful with the months ahead.

 KNOWHERE!

Knowhere
Marvel 101

In Marvel comics and in the MCU, Knowhere is the realm of a character called the Collector. As you might expect, he collects things. He also doesn’t get out much.

Like us, he has a lot of people bringing interesting things to him. Rather than having to go out in search of entertainment, he just needs to choose which of the many offers coming to him he wishes to make use of.

Be like the Collector. Stay home and let the entertainment, knowledge and wonder come to you.

Rise Above

Little minds are tamed and subdued by misfortune; but great minds rise above them. ~Washington Irving

We all seem to be stuck in our own little prisons these days, well, except for the prisoners who have been released to keep them from catching COVID19 (as if that makes any kind of fucking sense at all).

For some of us, this has been a rare opportunity to simply be still, get back in touch with our immediate families, reevaluate our very way of life.

There’s a lot of caterwauling on social media about how bored people are. Boohoo! Perhaps they’re bored because they live vacuous, frivolous lives. Perhaps they’re so used to filling the emptiness with pointless activity that when they’re faced with a bit of peace and quiet, they freak the hell out. Again, I say: Boohoo!

We’re living in an introvert’s paradise, people. Those of us who thrive on peace and quiet are having a bit of a laugh at those who are obsessed with constant activity, partying and unceasing noise. Nobody’s stopping you from having a virtual party. Turn your music up as loud as you want and have a rave on Skype or Zoom. You’re so stir-crazy that you can’t even think your way out of it.

While it’s inadvisable to have your friends over like you’re accustomed to, it’s not impossible to get in contact with them. They’re bored, too. You can all be bored together, virtually.

As for me, I’m cranking along with my story. The Conclave is about the show its ugly face at last. One of the viewpoint characters has been drafted into the dreadful shadow government of Empire City and he’ll be taking another viewpoint character down with him.

We’re going nowhere for the foreseeable future, but that’s okay. We can all go nearly anywhere, anywhen, anyhow if we put our minds to it.
