National Chocolate Cupcake Day 2023

To make your Hump 🐪 Day truly superb, it’s National Chocolate Cupcake Day. Kelly will be thrilled if some turn up at home today…

Vision

Where there is no vision, there is no hope. ~George Washington Carver

Your focus determines your destination. If you aren’t looking at or for any kind of a goal, you’re guaranteed to wind up exactly nowhere.

It doesn’t have to be a moon shot. It doesn’t even have to be substantial. Any goal will do.

I’m going to have a good day.

I’m going to take a walk.

I’m going to be nice to people.

I’m going to binge watch a series, end to end.

Whatever. Just have a goal. You can fend off depression by setting some achievable goals and completing them.

Even simple, small ones like having breakfast, chatting with friends or family, doing a crossword puzzle, anything.

When you choose to do something and then you do it, it empowers you to set more substantial goals and accomplish those.

Nobody expects you to cure cancer. If you can, great.

I can’t. It’s not my field of study. I’d love to see it happen, but it’s not something I can personally contribute any expertise to.

Nobody expects you to be some paragon of ultra-achievement. Just pick something. Do that. Feel good about having done so. Rinse and repeat.

Try it. You’ll like it.

Chocolate 🧁 Cupcakes

I like all kinds of cupcakes, to be quite honest. Kelly has a particular fondness for chocolate cupcakes with chocolate icing.

Who can blame her? The chocolaty goodness is well worth it. Fortunately, I can have sugar-free cupcakes and Kelly can have the real thing.

Certainly, that’s not the only thing we eat, but it’s a nice treat since we have the excuse of being the National Day of it. 😊 Yay.

Insight

Insight is the first condition of Art. ~George Henry Lewes

I’ve spoken before about how writers tend to address social issues, political philosophies or whatever axe they want to grind.

Whether you have a fully Dickensian bully pulpit in your pages or whether you simply want to tell a story that interests you, you are bringing a unique perspective to the work.

All the experiences, conversations, wins, losses, joys and sorrows you’ve ever experienced shape your work. Only you can tell a story the way you’d tell it.

That’s great. Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm tell Snow White differently than Walt Disney, differently than Shelly Duvall and differently than Bentkey does. Everybody has their own take on any given story.

Do your thing. Do it your way. If you do it badly, get an editor to help you do it better. You can do it and nobody can do it the way you do.

Share your insight and make the world a better place.

That’s all for today. I’m tired and in somewhat desperate need of a sugar-free chocolate cupcake and a glass of milk. Hope you’re having a great week.
