A nostalgic Memorial Day neighborhood parade passes a suburban family cookout as a father grills burgers and hot dogs beside folding chairs and waving American flags under bright late-spring sunshine.

This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave. ~Elmer Davis

The beginning of the season that passes for 🌞 Summer πŸ”₯ but technically is not has arrived.

Between the upcoming day of remembrance for our heroic dead and the day of celebration for the people who do the work that keeps the world turning, we have this pretend 🌞 Summer πŸ”₯.

Fair enough. Actual 🌞 Summer πŸ”₯ is only a couple of weeks away and based on this past week, 🌞 social summer πŸ”₯ will be hot AF like 🌞 real summer πŸ”₯.

So, whether it’s 🌞 real summer πŸ”₯ or 🌞 social summer πŸ”₯, I hope you enjoy it however you prefer.

History of the Holidays: History of Memorial Day | History

Memorial Day is for the remembrance of our fallen heroes.

We have cookouts, parades, parties, sales at the stores.

But that’s not what the holiday is about.

It’s about those who died believing they were fighting for a righteous purpose.

Let’s take a quiet moment to thank them for preserving our society and securing our freedoms.

✍🏻 Writing, Always The Writing πŸ“š

Heroism doesn’t always happen in a burst of glory. Sometimes small triumphs and large hearts change the course of history. ~Mary Roach

That’s a recurring theme in the Sentinels Chronicle.

The Sentinels may be the only superhumans (at the moment), but they’re far from the only heroes.

We all have an opportunity to do the right thing, pay it forward or even engage in a little self-sacrifice.

Empire City is a big place with a lot of people. Many do the right thing because it’s the right thing to do.

That’s the kind of world I’d like to see, even if it’s only a make-believe world in my head.

Having been to the Gettysburg battlefield, I can say that such a world existed in the middle of 19th Century.

I think that world exists still today, but sadly there’s a lot of evidence to the contrary.

Let’s do better…

That’s all for today. See you back on Wednesday for the Spider Cage…
