Thirsty Thursday

Okay, I’m grasping at straws for post titles. Whaddya want? Nevertheless, it is Thursday and I’m probably going to be thirsty at some point. I enjoyed some lovely Martinelli’s with my wife as part of our Valentine’s date last night. Martinelli’s Sparkling Apple Cider, savory Chex Mix and Scrabble. Who could ask for anything more?

Okay, I’ve gotta say it

I’m trying not to get political on here. I save that for Facebook rants, mostly. Today, I heard something that was too ridiculous not to go on the record about. Anybody reading this who’s involved in the legal system, maybe you can explain this to me.

Fact: DACA was an Executive Order by former President Barack Obama.

Fact: The aforementioned Executive Order was an Unconstitutional power grab from Congress. The President does not have the right or the authority to legislate via Executive Order. Our immigration system is based on a collection of laws. Said laws are written by Congress and passed to the President to be signed into law.

Fact: The current President, Donald Trump, recognized the fact that DACA was an Unconstitutional Executive Order and issued an Executive Order rescinding it with the intention of returning the responsibility to the Congress to establish law in the appropriate forum and form.

Fact: One or more federal judges have issued an injunction against the implementation of the Executive Order rescinding the previous Executive Order pending actual legislation in keeping with our form of government rather than fiat declarations by a would-be dictator.

Query: How can any judge issue an order that an illegal act be perpetuated? Shouldn’t that disqualify them from the bench? If you issue an order to continue breaking the law and being wildly Unconstitutional, isn’t that in itself illegal? Why, why, why are these activist judges not removed from the bench when they do something so blatantly against the interests of this country and the rule of law?

End of rant.

Some More Rules

Rule #231-234: Not yet cited in Star Trek episodes, movies or novels

Laws made by common consent must not be trampled on by individuals. ~George Washington

Amen. Those individuals include invaders who come outside the bounds of our immigration laws, regardless of their point of origin or their reasons for jumping the queue. Those individuals include tin-pot dictators who think they still have clout even though they are no longer the President and need to go away and shut the hell up. Those individuals include activist judges who don’t interpret the laws anymore because their own moral outrage somehow overrules the actual letter of the law they’re supposed to be involved in upholding.

Rule #235: Duck; death is tall

This speaks to the Ferengi nature. They’re short little guys who presumably evolved from some sort of species that was fearful of indigenous predators and then became fearful of alien bullies like the Klingons. In fairness, Scrooge found the Ghost of Christmas Yet-to-Come frighteningly tall and spectral. In most interpretations of the Christmas Carol, the ghost of the future appears to be the Grim Reaper. Maybe they’re on to something…

Rule #236: You can’t buy fate

True, you can’t buy fate, but you can steer your destiny with determined actions. I’m somewhat surprised that the Ferengi haven’t got a rule explaining how to end-run this one.

Rule #237-238: Not yet cited in Star Trek episodes, movies or novels

Love is friendship that has caught fire. It is quiet understanding, mutual confidence, sharing and forgiving. It is loyalty through good and bad times. It settles for less than perfection and makes allowances for human weaknesses. ~Ann Landers

I’m glad this is so. I was less than my best self this week. Fortunately, love is stronger than idiocy.

Rule #239: Never be afraid to mislabel a product

What? No! We do not deceive in order to make profit. That is another road to doom. Lying. Concealing. Obfuscating. Anything that doesn’t look good under the microscope is not, not, not to be done. Don’t mislabel. You’re not a Ferengi. You don’t have a warp sled and you won’t be in another star system when they discover you’ve duped them. Word of mouth spreads fast. Word of a cheater spreads faster. Just don’t.

Rule #240: Time, like latinum, is a highly limited commodity

So use yours wisely. What is it you’re doing with your life? Do you have a plan or are you a pawn in somebody else’s game? Take ownership of yourself. Today isn’t too late. It may be very late, but it’s not too late. You can always change your life with a single decision.

Just another boring Thursday in the life of a kitty cat who doesn’t actually care what day of the week it is. I’m cranking out my videos and waiting for traffic. We’ll see when it kicks in.
