Twas The Post Before Christmas 2021

And all through the house, Holly and Ivy is 94.66% complete so I don’t have to grouse. My hands on my keyboard, my mind in a trance, I type what I see as my characters dance. It’s not the best process, but it works for me. Keep an eye on my Facebook feed, this story to see…

Judge Not

The only normal people are the ones you don’t know very well. ~Alfred Adler

I’ve never been one of these people who needs to keep up with the Joneses.

You do you. I’ll do me. We’ll get along quite splendidly.

I also don’t hang a huge premium on “normal”.

Some people like to grouse about how awful their families are.

Well, sure. If you’re being neglected, abused or exposed to some other kind of harm, then your family probably is pretty awful. There are social service agencies who can help you find safety.

If you’re judging your family for not being as “normal” as the Joneses that everybody seems compelled to keep up with, then you should probably get over yourself.

There’s really no such thing as “normal”.

Norms are entirely situational. There are places on this planet where the acquisition and holding of slaves is “normal”. There are people in this country who believe that trafficking abducted children for sexual abuse is “normal”. There are cities where voting Democrat because people just vote Democrat is “normal”. Normal is overrated.

The thing about freedom and individuality is being able to be comfortable with harmless abnormality.

If you really knew the Joneses, you probably wouldn’t want to keep up. You might want to keep as far away as possible.

Then again, they might be delightfully eccentric. Who knows? You’ll never know if you put them on a pedestal instead of getting to know them as people.

Let ❄️ It ❄️ Snow ☃️

Frosty the Snowman | 1969
HD | 1080p | Full Movie | Christmas Movies for Kids

Not only was this one of my favorite Christmas songs as a kid, but this cartoon was a tradition.

It wasn’t Christmas without Jimmy Durante narrating this zippy little story. The goofy magician was delightfully wicked right to the point when Santa made him change his tune. A simple story for a simpler time.

Creative Technique

The works must be conceived with fire in the soul but executed with clinical coolness. ~Joan Miro

Clinical coolness? Well, I have been cranking out episodes like a storytelling machine lately. I guess that counts.

Conceived with fire in the soul? That’s the creative impulse in a nutshell. I write because can’t not write. I absolutely must create in order to be…

What?

Happy?

Content?

That might be overstating it. It’s more like breathing, being awake or walking around. I just do.

As much as I’d love to lounge around and sleep in until after noon…

Actually, I’d love to do that. I do my best writing at night anyway. That’s not a great analogy.

Even so, as much as I’d love to sleep in and lounge around, sometimes I get up early anyway.

Maybe it’s because I’ve gotten back into the habit for my day job.

Maybe it’s because I’m old and crotchety and am going to turn into one of these people who gets up at 4am, has dinner at noon and falls asleep before the evening news comes on.

Bah!

That’s not going to happen. We don’t watch the evening news.

In fact, we don’t watch anything at any particular time anymore.

🌤️👼🏾 Thank God 👼🏼❤️‍🔥

One of the many, many blessings of modern living is that we no longer have to wait until the TV decides it’s time for us to know what’s going on. We can check on the status of our senile President, the fire engines down the block, the local sports team or whatever we’re curious about 24×7.

Another such blessing is that we can pretty much do whatever we want, whenever we want, wherever we want (within reason). While this seems like license for wanton abandon and absolute anarchy, the fact is that most of us want to stay home and veg as much as possible. I’m quite blessed to be able to work from home. It’s a massive savings in time, gas money and mental wellbeing.

It has been a major factor in my ability to get as far with my story as quickly as I have. For that, I am deeply grateful.

That’s it. I’ve only got 3 episodes of this year’s Holiday Season Serial Romance to write, edit, format and schedule before Christmas. No point in dragging it out. Enjoy the rest of your week. I hope 🦌 Santa 🎅🏻 brings you everything you need and maybe even something you want.
