Bridge Mix

Among other things, today is National Chocolate Covered Nut Day. I have to lay off the sweets, but I’ve always had a soft spot for chocolate covered nuts like Bridge Mix, Goobers, Peanut M&Ms, Chocolate Payday bars, Snickers and so forth.

Love And A Little Chocolate

All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt. ~Charles M. Schulz

Really, Rob? A quote about chocolate from the guy who created the Peanuts comics?

Yes, thanks for noticing.

Anyway, that’s about as clever as I can afford to be this weekend. I’m suffering from yet another work coma.

My mind is utterly and completely scorched.

I’ve been working insanely long hours, and it’s now time to kick back and recover.

Unfortunately, my favorite cozy-buddy has an errand to attend to. She’ll be away most of the weekend.

Even though she probably doesn’t think so, I will miss her.

I’ve been too busy to even register her existence, and that’s not fair to her.

Unfortunately, if I don’t double down and try to get this stuff done, I’ll be too damned stressed out to be pleasant company.

I’m cooked either way.

I just need to get stuff done so it can be done and I can actually stop working at dinner time, spend some time enjoying her company and maybe even getting some work done on my own projects.

That actually sucks. My wife shouldn’t have to wait for me to not be buried in work. My family should not have to pretend like I don’t exist because I’m freaking swamped. I shouldn’t get up in the morning and keep working until I go to bed.

That’s suboptimal and a great way to drive myself back into a crippling burnout. Hmm, let’s don’t do that…

How It’s Made

UNWRAPPED: How Your Fave Movie Snacks (Raisinets and Goobers) Are Made | Unwrapped | Food Network

Back to the topic of chocolate covered nuts, here’s a quick video about one of Kelly’s favorite candies, Goobers.

As I already said, I enjoy all kinds of chocolate covered nuts. One of my favs is Bridge Mix. Sometimes you can find it, sometimes it’s nowhere.

If you’re not familiar with it, there are different combos but I’m used to seeing chocolate covered peanuts, almonds, macadamias and raisins. Some combos also include malted milk balls, chocolate coated toffee, caramel or cremes.

It’s sinfully delicious and not particularly good for me, but sometimes you just need to enjoy yourself.

Fortunately, I also enjoy eating healthy food. Everything in moderation, especially work…

A Chocolate Bar And An M-1 Rifle

I was handed a chocolate bar and an M-1 rifle and told to go kill Hitler. ~Jack Kirby

Jack Kirby is a comic book legend. The list of memorable characters and concepts he introduced is a virtual who’s who of some of the most popular characters in the MCU and beyond it. He and Stan Lee were amazingly prolific creators of characters we still know today.

I don’t expect my The Sentinels characters to be a fraction as famous as Jack’s, but I hope they will resonate with my readers.

The funny thing about introducing characters is that each one suggests a handful of related characters. Before long, even a single character like Captain America has a gaggle of enemies, a collection of friends and associates, teammates and acquaintances.

Characters (the good ones) are basically people. People have relationships. Those relationships can be positive, neutral or negative.

Superheroes are mostly known for their colorful adversaries, but most of them have people they team up with to fight crime or wars. Most of them have friends or relatives who aren’t superhuman and need to be protected from their super powered antics. These are the stories that stick with us.

That’s what I’m aiming for in each of my chosen genres.

If I could take some time off from writing code, I might even get back to writing stories.

Man, am I tired…

That’s it for the weekend. I’m tired. I need to rest. I hope you get some R&R, too.
