Logjam

It’s strange how stuff piles up. You get stuck on one thing and all the other matters in life just back up in a huge logjam behind that one irksome issue.

🍂 Action 🍂

All the beautiful sentiments in the world weigh less than a single lovely action. ~James Russel Lowell

I’ve always meant well but I’ve rarely had the chance to do a lot of good. Fortunately, my improved circumstances have made some charitable donations possible.

Im glad to help when Im able.

Ultimately, we just need to try to be the best us we can be at any given moment. That’s not always easy. Sometimes, it’s not even possible.

People get upset about things and they act in less than perfect ways. We still have the freedom to try to do better the next time.

Freedom is nothing but a chance to be better ~Albert Camus

🦃 Thanksgiving Day, Rona Style 🏈

How The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Will Differ This Year | TODAY

The good news is that apparently there will still be a Macy’s parade this year. As always, if we get the chance, we’ll see it on TV or the internet. For me, it makes little difference. I’m not into crowds and I basically never have cause to be in New York City on Thanksgiving Day. It’s a family holiday and family is here in Pennsylvania.

For those who look forward to attending in person, better luck next year. Hopefully, NYC will return to something passing for a semblance of “normal” once the COVID crisis is over.

📓 Adventure In The Soul ✍🏻

Every production of an artist should be the expression of an adventure in his soul. ~W. Somerset Maugham

Part of what draws me to the genres I’m writing in is that they’re basically an offshoot of when I used to play D&D and other role-playing games back in high school and college. The desire to pretend to be a fictional character and challenge yourself against monsters, traps and other hazards is the true nerd’s form of adventure.

Ultimately, writing is an exercise in the same kind of collaborative storytelling that role-playing games provided me in the past. You could say I’m playing by myself, but I’m not. I bounce ideas off of others and incorporate that into the overall story.

So, even though the result is ultimately my own work of prose, it’s truly an exercise in collaborative storytelling. That’s part of what helps to keep it “real”. Kind of funny to call fiction “real” but even imaginary events can have a “real” effect on the readers. Even if it’s a brief period of distracted happiness, any author wants to have some kind of positive effect on the readers.

Fortunately, my logjam broke free yesterday. I’ve got tons to catch up and get the river rolling again. I hope your weekend is as much of a breakthrough as mine has been.
