National Quiche Lorraine Day 2023

Today is National Quiche Lorraine Day and I’m all about it. They used to say that “real men don’t eat quiche“, but who the heck are “they” anyway?

It’s Been One Of Those Weeks

True silence is the rest of the mind, and is to the spirit what sleep is to the body, nourishment and refreshment. ~William Penn

I used to think it was a rough week when I would succumb to a work coma.

Nope.

Those were the good ol’ days.

Honestly, I was really put through the wringer this week and it’s getting to be a bit much.

Thank goodness for weekends, because I really need to sleep and I wouldn’t mind a lovely slice of quiche for breakfast.

Sorry, but I can’t get a lot deeper than that when my brain has been turned into pudding. I just need to recover and start fresh again next week.

You Knew This Was Coming

I always thought the whole “real men don’t eat quiche” thing was BS. Granted, quiche sounds a bit hoity toity, but it’s just an omelet pie.

Why would anybody object to eggs, cheese and diced vegetables in a pie shell? It’s brilliant.

Stupid ideas like this sprout up periodically. The zeitgeist grabs onto stupid ideas, spreads them liberally and it takes a fair amount of time to get it washed out of our system.

We’re currently in the grip of several extremely stupid, toxic ideas. It feels like it happened overnight, but it’s actually been in the works for years. It’s going to take a while for the natural consequences of such monumental idiocy to shake out of the collective consciousness.

Fortunately, it’s so damned stupid that it is naturally unsustainable. It will burn itself out one way or another. We just have to cut off the fuel supply and wait for it go out.

In the meantime, here’s a French chef to show you how to make a proper quiche. I guarantee, real men eat quiche and whatever the hell else they want to. Bon Appétit!

Baby Steps

Nothing can be done except little by little. ~Charles Baudelaire

The problem with doing work that turns my brain into pudding is that it leaves very little mental energy to devote to writing.

All the same, I need to make a more concerted effort to try to write some words any day that I’m not too exhausted to do so.

How to Create a Consistent Writing Habit

It’s a struggle. It really is.

Part of it is the mental exhaustion. Part of it is the cognitive dissonance of trying to shift to a more plot-driven paradigm when pantsing comes more naturally. That’s exhausting, too.

I’ll need to get extra sleep this weekend so I can have the energy and mental clarity to set some plans in place for both work and writing.

I can’t afford to be purely reactive. It’s getting me nowhere. I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired. Thank God it’s the weekend.

That’s all I’ve got. It’s been a rough week and it’s just going to keep getting rougher. Somebody cut me a slice of quiche…
