National Sourdough Bread Day 2023

Yes, I know you expected some kind of April Fool’s gag here, but it’s National Sourdough Bread Day, y’all…

💐April Follies🌷

The first of April is the day we remember what we are the other 364 days of the year. ~Mark Twain

April Fool’s Day seems a bit redundant this year.

There is so much confounded foolishness going on all around us. It doesn’t seem beneficial to add to that with the usual April 1st frivolities.

We’re all wearing slip on shoes these days, so the gag about your shoelace being untied is spurious.

I’m sure Kelly and Connor will pull some tricks, given their mischievous natures.

For me, I’m not feeling it. I’m a bit overloaded on foolishness these days.

I’d like things to make sense again, so I guess the joke is on me.

How To Make Sourdough For Beginners • Tasty

I need to stay on a low carb diet, but I do appreciate a flavorful slice of bread.

I enjoy rye bread the most, but given that it is a day to celebrate sourdough bread, I wouldn’t mind a few slices of this variety.

What do I put on bread these days? Crunchy peanut butter, liverwurst, grilled cheese or even just plain butter. Also, when I can get some, I’ll cut an avocado in half and make a sandwich out of that.

Okay, now I have a craving. I haven’t had a decent avocado sandwich in quite some time. Guess it’s time to go shopping.

🦸‍♂️ Sit On The Curb 🦸‍♀️

We can’t all be heroes, because somebody has to sit on the curb and applaud when they go by. ~Will Rogers

A funny thing is that my original draft of The Sentinels is exactly this. The eponymous super team is participating in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. The next generation of superheroes are some kids enjoying the parade when a mutagenic toxin is released, causing them to develop super powers.

In the grand scope of my intended series arc, it occurred to me that this story line is actually going to be book ten of the thirteen in the full series.

It seemed a bit unfair to introduce a massive team with a huge, unstated backstory. At the time of the parade, they’re a rather large, powerful team.

I wanted to go back to the beginning, when they’re a smaller, less powerful team and show the arc as a progression through the Golden, Silver, Bronze and Modern Ages of Comic Books.

Golden Age Comics were typically stand-alones, but one of the first comic books I ever got was the giant-sized Justice Society of America compilation. In this comic, a bunch of stand-alone heroes tell their stories to each other around a large round table.

Super teams didn’t really start being a thing until the Silver and Bronze Ages of Comic Books, so the stand-alone tales of Firefox, Captain Freedom and Mary Christmas will be told as reminiscences as the Blue Banshee gets up to speed as a fledgling superhero.

That’s where things stand at the moment. I’m trying to dial in the touch points necessary to get the story rolling.

It feels too quick and choppy in its current form. Pretty frustrating.

That’s it for the weekend. We’re already into April, so I’ve got to get on with my tasks after I’ve caught some deep, sweet, satisfying 💤😴💤.
