So, my son was being a stickler for grammar today.

This Thursday

Thursday of this week is “This Thursday“.

Thursday of next week is “Thanksgiving Day“.

This week is just another Thursday. Next week is something to look forward to.

Everybody loves Thanksgiving dinner, but my son is particularly looking forward to next Thursday because he’s decided that “No Shave November” ends on Black Friday. He’s done a fine job of growing a respectably thick, full beard in record time.

That being said, he’s having the same problem I have in attempting to grow mine to any appreciable length. Anything over an inch or so becomes unbearably itchy. He’s finding the experience pretty unpleasant, but he’s not one to be deterred from the prank of the year.

Next Thursday

My younger son has been querying intensely about Thanksgiving.

Christmas is so incredibly marketable, while Thanksgiving has few movies, decorations or even TV commercials.

I explained to him that it’s really only marketable for grocery stores but the point of Thanksgiving is not to sell stuff. Rather, it’s to celebrate the incredible opportunities we have in this country.

Thanksgiving is quite literally about giving thanks…

  • for the opportunity to pursue any goal you have the desire to achieve
  • for the abundance of resources in this region and country
  • for the abundance of love in our families and community

That being said, I’m hooking you up with some Thanksgiving entertainment and education now because I’ll be busy on Thanksgiving Day doing family stuff.

Any Thursday, Any Day At All

It is never too late to be what you might have been. ~George Elliot

I’ve been harping on this a lot lately, but recovering from mistakes earlier rather than later is definitely preferable. Even if it takes time to circle back for a do-over, it’s still worth the trip.

Set a goal and don’t anchor yourself to preconceived notions of burned bridges or unringable bells. Yes, some mistakes can’t be undone, but most really can. Set aside hubris or shame and get back on track.

That’s it. It’s been a busy week and a busy weekend. I’ve still got Christmas dailies to catch up on, so that’s it for today. Have a great week and for goodness sake, don’t hesitate to be who you are. You’re unique, just like everyone else…
