Ought To Be A Nice Day

Today’s forecast shows us topping out in the high 70s. Theoretically, that should be a “nice” Summer day…

More Cognitive Dissonance

Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right. ~George Orwell, 1984

Yes, we’ve basically gotten to the point where we cannot actually know anything about anything. Fake news is the only news.

We’re bombarded with images of toppled statues, defaced monuments and people screaming about injustices that have happened to other people. The spoiled children of society are running rampant and they’re being enabled by the Nanny-state politicians who thrive when they’re fanning the flames of social unrest.

I get it.

People are suffering a really bad case of cabin fever after the COVID19 lockdown but jeez!

If they can lock down churches, restaurants and hairdressers, they can definitely lock down all of these rampaging lunatics who are defacing everything in sight.

Enough is enough.

Let’s get back to the Rule of Law and get all of these frothing maniacs to work scrubbing the spray paint off of every last church, monument and statue that they have defaced. There is no collective outrage that justifies looting and wanton property damage.

Grow the fuck up and take responsibility for your own lives! If you can’t do something positive then stay the hell home and spray paint your own walls. We don’t need to see your public displays of childishness.

We’re over you and your pointless tantrums.

Let Me Sleep In And Write Late!

As far as I’m concerned, the entire reason for becoming a writer is not having to get up in the morning. ~Neil Gaiman

Yeah, that’s about all the reason I need to do anything. Not getting up in the morning is a great way to motivate me.

Unfortunately, life gets in the way.

I’ve been in a bit of a funk for the last week or two. Part of it is the oppressive heat. I don’t do well in hot weather. Part of it was the process of trying to balance the events of the story for pacing and coherence.

I really admire and enjoy the plot twists of quality fiction. From the simple red herrings of a whodunit to the deeply embroidered character entanglements of Dickens and Martin, I love when seemingly disparate events entwine to form a unified story.

However, I hate when my own lack of planning leads me to paint myself into a corner. I’ve been stepping back and letting things stew a bit.

I’ve also been laying around like a lizard on a rock. Nothing saps my very will to live like a day in the 80s or 90s. Hating to simply be alive is a very big distraction from doing quality work.

Given what seems to be a potentially “nice” day (a cloudy day in the 50s would be nicer), I’ve got the potential to plan some twists and turns in the story that will set up the series and provide a great book to start it off with.

With any luck, I will be able to sufficiently distract myself from whatever heat we’re subjected to today. I’ve got plenty of writing to catch up on and today’s a great day to get on with it.
