Another Glorious Weekend

After a miserable scorcher of a week, the weekend is settling down to something more my style.I’ll take grim, damp and chilly over blinding and hot as hell. No contest whatsoever.

All Warm And Happy

The glow of one warm thought is to me worth more than money. ~Thomas Jefferson

It makes my heart swell with joy to have a lovely weekend to spend on overdue personal projects.

It remains to be seen whether or not a single one of them will be seen to fruition.

There are errands to run and guests passing through.

Since it’s not a hellacious zillion degrees 🌡️ out, we can actually cook something warm and hearty instead of settling for cold sandwiches.

Screw summer…

It’s not even technically summer yet and we’ve already had an insufferable heatwave. Blech…

Breadcrumbs And Easter Eggs

I enjoy a well-constructed tale.

I adore an intricate collection of stories.

I go completely mad for an artfully woven epic.

The MCU is giving me all that and more.

Granted, they have nearly a century of existing lore and a stable of characters that all but the most diehard comics afficionados would have a hard time listing.

There are tons of source material for them to work with.

The only thing better than watching these things casually and geeking out about the tremendous spectacle of it all is the cadre of ultra-OCD comics fans who will double back and point out all the exquisite minutiae.

It’s just as fun to watch them delve into the details as it is to take the films at face value.

I intend to put that level of detail into my Sentinels series. The pieces are coming together slowly because my natural inclination is toward discovery writing.

Planning is outside of my comfort zone, but I have to get it right if I want this series to be everything I have imagined it can be.

Vices are sometimes only virtues carried to excess! ~Charles Dickens

The thing about villains, anti-heroes and anti-villains is that the believable ones think they’re doing the right thing. As such, they rarely take kindly to people trying to prove to them they are not.

Very few people are unremittingly diabolical. Those who are, generally don’t have enough of a social circle to engage in large-scale villainy.

In the Daredevil series on Netflix, the Kingpin felt he was doing his part to renew New York City in the wake of the catastrophic clash between the Avengers and Loki’s Chitauri invasion force. That he used thugs and gangsters to accomplish his ends was of minimal concern to him.

Despotic heads of state such as Doctor Doom and Queen Bee have armies and other mechanisms of control to ensure their despicable will is done. It’s easy to assume that whatever you’re doing is right when nobody is allowed to disagree with you.

You sometimes get the unwitting or unwilling villain who is simply a person who values their goal over the consequences of whatever it takes to accomplish it.

There is an entire spectrum of badness that any given villain might find themselves on.

So, my principle villains in the Golden Age phase of my series have been running Empire City since before it was Empire City. Okay, where do I go from there? What do they really want that is enough to keep them engaged for centuries?

Unfortunately, I still don’t know.

That’s where my weakness as a plotter comes in. Well, that’s something to keep working on.

Busy weekend, plenty to do. I hope you’re getting some much needed R&R.
