Counting My Blessings

When I’m worried and I can’t sleep / I count my blessings instead of sheep / And I fall asleep counting my blessings
When my bankroll is getting small / I think of when I had none at all / And I fall asleep counting my blessings

Got My Health, Sorta

Despite the attitude of gratitude I’m trying to convey here, the ankle still hurts like a son of a gun and now I seem to have pulled something in my upper thigh because I’m getting a hell of a pinch when I stand or twist. I’m talking serious, scream out loud sort of pain.

I’m also experiencing a conceptual pain in that the Workman’s Comp adjuster still hasn’t approved me to be seen by the local physical therapy office instead of whatever place they want to send me. If I don’t get the PT, I’m not going to improve very much on the ankle situation.

It’s already been 3 weeks and it still hurts. I’ve been prescribed physical therapy but I have to wait for somebody to let me go to the local place instead of someplace in Reading. Annoying, to say the least.

Got a call from the pharmacy today saying they had a supplementary dose for my thyroid hormone replacement. Hopefully, the extra couple of mcg will help overcome the dreadful low energy I’ve been plagued with.

My current prescription is the max that they put in a single pill. I’m supposed to be taking an extra half of a pill in the additional dose in order to bring my T3 and T4 numbers into line (theoretically).

Apart from that, I’m blessed to enjoy fairly decent health. I could be a lot worse off than I am and I’m grateful that whatever I’m currently afflicted with will soon be alleviated (probably).

Glorious Children

Yes, it’s my blog and I get to brag on my children again. So, there.

Emmeline just got back from her friend’s birthday celebration in Las Angeles. She had a great time at Universal and a variety of shopping malls, etc. She’ll soon be starting classes at Kutztown University.

Connor is testing for his Third Degree Black Belt in Goshin Ryu Ju Jitsu at USA Martial Arts in Tamaqua, PA tonight. He’s looking forward to earning this next rank before heading off to college.

Dorothy is getting ready to start 11th Grade and is the same sweet, loveable little munchkin she’s always been. There are some teenager moments, but she’s a darling in most cases. She has been working at Blue Mountain Christian Retreat this summer, but she’s ready to tackle another school year.

Allan is getting ready to start 9th Grade and is racking up merit badges at Troop 624 like it’s going out of style. The boy is definitely driven to achieve his Eagle rank before long. Should be interesting to see what he chooses for his project.

Best Friends Since 1990

It is one of the blessings of old friends that you can afford to be stupid with them. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

The single greatest blessing of my life is my best friend, Kelly. She is so kind and silly and forgiving of all of my idiotic flaws. There are those around her who don’t share her forbearance.

Oh well, apparently they don’t understand the concept of “til death do us part“. Fortunately, they don’t have a say in the matter.

I’ve been an absolute wreck these last few years and she has had to carry us all. I’m terribly sorry about that and tremendously grateful to her for her patience.

To those judging harshly from outside, suffice to say that you don’t have enough details to render judgment. If you knew the whole story, you wouldn’t be so mean.

In any case, mind your own business.

I know that some of my most critical detractors are far from perfect themselves and ought not to be throwing stones.

Perhaps that wasn’t as attitude of gratitude as I could have managed, but I’m feeling sorely pained in body and severely rumpled in spirit these days.

Instead of passing judgment, how about praying for us instead. We can use all the intercession our friends and family could possibly muster.

It’s been a rough year so far and it ain’t getting any easier with me simultaneously having a job and not being able to go to it to earn any money. Likewise, it’s no treat being prescribed physical therapy so I can get back to the job but not being cleared to go get it because of some crazy red tape.

Things can stand to get better for us. I’m willing to do my part, but it’s gonna take baby steps to get back to any sense of normalcy. Please, pray for us.
