Goodbye, January 2021

January has been like one continuous sick day and I won’t be sorry to see it go.

Too Late?

It is never too late to be what you might have been ~George Eliot

I started the year behind the 🎱 and have been trying to catch up all month long.

To make matters worse, I’ve been listening to the trends in self-publishing and watching various pundits suddenly dry up and go silent.

Between Amazon reconfiguring itself from a buyer-based marketing system to a pay-to-play arrangement and the commie retards in the current administration doing their level best to tear out all of the economic gains of the previous administration in order drive us back to the socioeconomic stagnation of Obama and Carter, it’s apparently getting tougher (nigh impossible) to make a decent buck in self-publishing.

Well, isn’t THAT special?

Good thing I’ve got a day job again. Of course, that’s what I’ve been running so far behind on. I started off with a handful of things that were meant to be completed before the clock struck 12 on 2020.

No such luck. Stuff just has a way of dragging on and gaining in complexity. One good thing that happened in January is that I finally figured out how to finish up one of the really big pieces that was holding everything else up. At least I can be grateful for that breakthrough…

Throwback?

70’s Oldies but Goodies – 70s Greatest Hits
Best Oldies Songs Of 1970s – Greatest 70s Music

The current POTUS first entered the Senate in 1973. Dude’s been a freaking barnacle on America’s ass since before the OPEC embargo that made the 70s such a spectacular time to be alive. To celebrate exactly how awesome the 70s were, I’ve included these charming ditties for your listening pleasure (?).

Back In The U.S.S.R

Okay, technically, this song came out in 1968 but it’s indicative of how awesome it is for self-absorbed zillionaire celebrities to hate on America and bite the hands that fed them. The more things change, the more they stay the same…

It’s also a pretty good indicator of where things are headed if the Democraps continue to have their way unimpeded by things like common sense, a robust opposition party {scoff, scoff} or any kind of backlash from actual market forces.

We’re quickly devolving into a nanny-state dystopia but I suppose we have to hit rock bottom before we can bounce back.

Hopefully, most of the career politicians who are causing all the ruckus will splat on the canyon floor when we get to the bottom.

Grow Up?

Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up. ~Pablo Picasso

It’s pretty hard to be creative and be a grownup at the same time. Grownups are weighed down by the cares of daily life. Keeping the family housed, clothed and fed is enough to suck the soul out of most people’s muses.

Adulting generally sucks unless you can slice out some time for creative expression. Most people settle for letting others do the creativity for them. Listening to music. Watching TV. Going to the movies or live performances. Even the occasional parade provides a hit of vicarious creativity.

Some express their creativity in what they cook for dinner or the occasional baked good. Some are constantly renovating and redecorating. Better than nothing, to be sure.

For me, I’ve been taking the month off. As I said above, it’s been one continuous sick day.

Fortunately, my schedule can accommodate that. I’d like to be actively working on my series but I’ve barely been able to function. Whatever energy I did have was allocated exclusively to work stuff. The stuff that rode over from 2020 has cost me a couple of long nights that ought to have been dedicated to planning, plotting, writing or even sleeping.

Well, at least I’m just about caught up because this year’s work begins anew in February. The clock’s ticking and the 2021 content calendar isn’t going to budge any more than the 2020 RomCom schedule did. Fortunately, I did the Christmas All The Time content calendar last year. All I need to do is write the articles and the story. I also need to get The Sentinels, Tales Of Olde Auringia and Far-Flung Reaches out of “Coming Soon” mode.

Fortunately (?), I’ve traded the dreadful creeping crud of the first two weeks of January for a simple UTI and an unfavorable work-life balance. I could barely think straight for the first half of the month. Now, at least I can concentrate. I just have an urge to pee every 10 minutes. I can still think and plan and plot on my way to and from the bathroom.

Who knows? I might even be in a position to get stuff done in February. Maybe…

That’s what I’ve got for you today. I’ve got to get back to figuring out my work-life balance issues. I hope you’re having some wintry R&R this weekend.
