National Random Acts of Kindness Day 2024

Today is National Random Acts of Kindness Day, so share the love wherever you can.

No Matter How Small

No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. ~Aesop

Something as inconsequential as sharing a smile or holding the door for someone is all it takes.

All around us, there are people having a genuinely crappy day. If we can expend the effort to make it a little less insufferable, it will make the world a better place.

Most of us aren’t going to cure cancer or eliminate poverty. We don’t need to be large scale philanthropists to make the world less crappy.

Starting wherever you are and lightening the load a bit for someone is better than nothing.

God knows there are enough people who take joy in victimizing others.

Being the opposite of that is something within reach for most of us.

How It’s Done

Random Acts Of Kindness That Will Make You Cry!

Sometimes it might be us who need a helping hand. Most times, it’s not.

If you can do just a little something to make someone’s day better, it’s mutually beneficial.

There’s a vicarious pleasure in being kind to others. In some cases, it’s just a matter of duty.

If you see someone struggling, it helps you both to see that person safely on their way.

It’s easy enough to stare into our phones and walk around, oblivious to the world at large.

Take some time while you’re out and about to see if there’s a frown you can help to turn upside down.

It’s worth it.

Opportunity

Wherever there is a human being, there is an opportunity for a kindness. ~Lucius Annaeus Seneca

That’s one of the things that classic superheroes are known for. Sure, they’re mostly known for super-bombastic donnybrooks with BIFF, BAM, POW and gratuitous property damage.

What The Sentinels started off as came from Lucky’s love of comic books. “Who is Lucky?“, you might be wondering.

Lucius “Lucky Dog” Deagle is a lawyer whose passion project was to find other superheroes like his godfather, Captain Freedom, and to form a team like the Justice League, the Avengers or the Justice Society of America.

Lucky envisioned his team of superheroes doing good deeds and helping the police to keep Empire City safe.

He hoped his team would set a good example for the citizens of the city. Well, no good deed goes unpunished.

From a practical standpoint, it’s hard to keep your smile in a crowded city with more than its fair share of crooks, thugs and shysters.

From a fiction-writing standpoint, you need to torture your characters in order to keep the story interesting. Nothing propels a story and holds interest like conflict.

So, as they say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. It’s not much fun for our heroes, but it makes for great reading. At least, I hope so.

That’s all for today. I hope you have a lovely weekend and that you get a chance to make it lovelier for someone else with a random act of kindness.
