Christmas Cookies

So, we’re 3/8 of the way through Advent and I need to get some more Christmas cookies in the oven!

Shake

Well, there’s nothing like some jolly Christmas music to put me in the mood to enjoy the holiday season. Scotty McCreery is an excellent performer who I’ve seen live in concert a few years ago.

So, I didn’t have to return to the factory after all. The seemingly parenthetical restriction against stairs and ladders was deemed sufficient to prevent me returning. That’s fine. I can’t help thinking it would have been unbearably painful after an hour or two. Physical therapy continues and so does the random and arbitrary pain in my ankle.

As such, I’ve got time to shake a leg (not the sore one) and get my Christmas dailies done over at Christmas All The Time. It’s getting a bit tough. I’m really racking my brains to come up with original material and stay ahead of the rapidly proceeding Christmas season.

Just when I thought the ribs were back in shape, I got a heck of a zinger yesterday trying to snap some spaghetti into a pot! The same spot got me today trying to put on my seatbelt. Yikes! Twisting is back on the no-go list…

Bake

These look really tasty, but I’m cheating this year. The grocery store has these marvelous little packages of pre-made cookie dough that’s all staged for you to put on a baking sheet and just heat them up.

Sure, there’s something marvelous and fun about stirring up the ingredients into a tasty batter that will become an even tastier batch of cookies.

Thing is, Im busy!

The market responds to busy folks like me. There are ready-to-bake batches of cookie dough, tubes of the stuff and even cookies that are already baked for you by local bakeries or multinational factories. You can have Christmas cookies any time of day if you’ve got the money.

Flake

I always wanted to be somebody,
but now I realize I should have been more specific.
~Lily Tomlin

It’s definitely a given that you need to specify a destination if you expect to arrive.

Honestly, all I’ve ever really wanted was to be free to be me. I’m not a cookie-cutter kind of guy. I’m unique, just like everybody else.

Who am I and who do I want to be?

Do I even know? Does anybody ever really know?

Actually, I’ve always had a mixture of admiration and abstract horror for people who “just know” all the stuff associated with their chosen destination.

You know the type. The epitome of their niche, they “just know“:

  • all the right names to drop
  • the history of their craft
  • the ins and outs of their selected discipline

They just eat, drink, breathe and bleed their selected vocation.

That was never me. I wasn’t the kid who wanted to be an astronaut, fireman, doctor or any other specific thing. I really just wanted to stay home and create things.

Still do.

I am, by nature, a creator or architect. I like creating entire universes. Millieu designing is quite fascinating to me. I can do it for weeks at a time. In theory, this would translate well to writing fiction. Remains to be seen. Once I’m done with my Christmas dailies, I am absolutely dying to return to the parallel universe where the Sentinels reside.

Despite what I wish, what I have is tons more to do before the Magi reach the Manger. Like Santa (who I am increasingly coming to resemble), Christmas is my busy season. I’m hoping to have it done much earlier in 2019. Truth be told, I’d like to be done my 2019 dailies by Labor Day. Only time will tell…
